Women’s and Paediatric imaging
I am originally from South Africa, where I was educated and completed my primary medical qualification. After I emigrated to the UK to pursue a surgical career, I came to love imaging and qualified as a Consultant Radiologist in Plymouth, Devon.
Later, I moved to Melbourne and completed Body and Hepatobiliary Fellowships at two of the city’s premier advanced referral centres. I now work at The Northern Hospital in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. I have a keen interest in teaching all levels of medical personnel, which led me to take on the roles of Director of Training (Radiology) and Honorary Clinical Fellow at The University of Melbourne.
My favourite thing about working in the Radiology department is the contact we have with other specialty areas within the hospital. Our work is crucial to all stages of patient care – from diagnosis to treatment and follow-up. The job is varied and challenging, and every day is different.
I love Radiology because it requires a great knowledge of anatomy, which is a fundamental cornerstone in Medicine. I am also in awe of the functioning of the human body as a complex network.
For me, the most important aspect of what we do is providing a personalised service to every patient that centres on their needs.
I enjoy free weight training and walking. I sing in a community Gospel Choir and I also love going to the movies. My favourite pastime is travelling – whether it be local, national or international.
